Zcash (ZEC)

A bug was literally sitting inside $ZEC code for 4 whole years and nobody caught it

and then an AI came along and found it in like seconds, and the coin dropped 40% in a single day.

this is basically what crypto has become now.

Quick thoughts:

crypto is all open source that just means the code behind every project is out there in the open for anyone to see.

anyone can go read it, study it, copy it, whatever they want.

like, you're never gonna get to see the code behind nvidia, that stuff is locked up tight inside the company.

but ethereum, solana, pretty much every coin out there? their code is just sitting there in the open for the entire world to look at.

and for years that was actually the best thing about it. everybody could check the code themselves, so no team could quietly sneak a lie into it.

but now that same open code has become the easiest thing in the world to attack, because hackers have finally gotten their hands on a serious weapon, and that weapon is AI.

think about it for a second.

a hacker used to have to sit there and read through thousands of lines of code by hand just to find one little weak spot.

but now they just feed all that public code into an AI, and it hands them the one tiny mistake the team missed, in seconds.

and once they find that little crack, they're in, and they can drain billions out before anyone even notices what happened.

and Zcash was honestly just the trailer. there's a lot more of this coming.

imo a big wave of hacks is on the way, and it's gonna wipe out a whole bunch of projects.

i know that sounds scary, but honestly it's more of a clean-up than a disaster.

because the strong projects, the ones that actually have real money in the bank, they're gonna spend whatever it takes to lock their code down and they'll come out fine.

but the weak ones, the teams that can't even pay their own people, they've got no defense at all, and they're gonna get picked off one by one.

all the junk gets flushed out, and the real ones are the ones left standing.

Secret minting is possible on ZKP and FHE privacy chains like Zcash, Monero and Zama but impossible on Canton Network.

In Zcash’s Orchard shielded pools, a critical bug allowed unlimited undetectable counterfeit ZEC. Monero’s CryptoNote protocol had a similar inflation exploit in the past. Zama’s FHE confidential smart contracts carry the same core risk: fully opaque computation on encrypted data means a flaw can create hidden tokens the network accepts without anyone knowing.

Canton rejects this model. No reliance on fragile general ZKP or FHE proofs for core ledger integrity. Instead it uses sub-transaction privacy via Daml smart contracts. Data is shared only on a need-to-know basis with relevant parties. Authorized stakeholders, issuers, custodians and regulators can directly verify balances, issuance rules and history. Anomalies are detectable and recoverable by design. No silent undetectable ledger breaks.
