Aquarius arbeitet seit 2021 als Liquiditätsschicht, die darauf ausgelegt ist, Markt-Making und Liquiditätsbereitstellung auf Stellars nativen DEX und AMMs zu incentivieren. Im Juli 2024 entwickelte sich Aquarius weiter, indem die neue Smart-Contract-Schicht von Stellar, Soroban, verwendet wurde. Dies ermöglichte die Schaffung von Aquarius AMMs und die Bereitstellung besserer AMM-Pools auf Stellar über aqua.network.
